EFDN Conference Kicked-Off with Award presentations

The 14th EFDN ‘#Morethanfootball’ Conference got underway today with a variety of presentations on community and social responsibility within European football. More than 300 participants from clubs, leagues and FAs joined the sessions that began at noon running all the way through to 5pm (CET) in the evening.

EFDN CEO Hubert Rovers, Programme and Partnerships Manager Robert Maaskant and host Rivkah op het Veld kicked off the conference from the Studio Morethanfootball at NAC Breda’s Rat Varleigh Stadion. Indeed, the Covid-19 pandemic necessitated a change of the modus operandi but the decision to go virtual was vindicated by the numerous club, foundation and sport organisations staff that tuned in from across the European continent. Diversity and Inclusion Project Manager Martyn Rijkhoff got the presentations underway with a Community Champions League programme that EFDN implements with several members of its network.

This was followed by presentations from the No Violence in Sport (NOVIS) and Show Racism the Red Card programmes. Day one was concluded by presentations from representatives of the five clubs and foundations whose programmes have been nominated for the More Than Football Award. Club Brugge’s The Bear and his Scarf; Legia Warsaw & Legia Foundation’s #GotowiDoPomocy (Ready to help); Borussia Dortmund’s United by Borussia; the Belgium Pro League’s Younited Belgium; and Malmö FF’s Grundskolefotboll mot rasism (School football against Racism).

The conference continues tomorrow with presentations from Healthy Football League, networking roundtables and presentations surrounding sport and SDGs, disability football and STEM education among others.
