Gerald Mballe – Speaker at the 19th EFDN Conference
Gerald Mballe is an Advisor at Special Olympics Europe Eurasia and will be speaking after the Special Olympics Unified with Refugees Exhibition Match at the 19th EFDN #Morethanfootball Conference in Seville from the 20th until the 22nd of March 2023.
Gerald Mballe is the Special Olympics’ first-ever Advisor for the Unified with Refugees program, supporting its expansion and impact. His commitment to inclusive sports and social inclusion worldwide has led Gerald to take part in global convenings to promote the message of inclusion. Gerald also participated with Special Olympics international in a documentary on sport as a tool that changes life by including all, done by ESPN, the world-class broadcaster. He was awarded the title of Role Model for the integration of refugees through sports in schools, sports clubs, and workplaces in the ISCA awards citizen choice in 2021.
After the Special Olympics Unified with Refugees Exhibition Match at the Conference in Seville, Gerald Mballe will discuss the following topic called ‘The impact of football in my life and my community’. Gerald will share his experience from a refugee center in northern Italy to becoming a recipient of an international sport award winner. Empowered by the Special Olympics athletes through sport in particularly football in some of the most challenging moments of his life, Gerald found acceptance and a sense of purpose. Today, he is the first ever advisor of Special Olympics for the Unified with Refugees programme.
