MATTEO ZACCHETTI (EUROPEAN COMMISSION) TO PRESENT AT 14TH EFDN CONFERENCE

Matteo Zacchetti, Policy Officer, in the Sport Unit in Directorate General for Education and Culture, will be presenting at the 14th EFDN #Morethanfootball Conference in Breda.

Born in Genoa (Italy) in 1966, Matteo Zacchetti works at the European Commission, since 1995. He is currently the Policy Officer in the Sport Unit in DG Education and Culture and he is responsible for the European Week of Sport. He holds a degree in Economics at the University of Genoa and supports the football team of his hometown, UC Sampdoria.

The topic of Matteo’s presentation is on ‘The European Week of Sport 2020’ and will be all about how sport and physical activity contributes substantially to the wellbeing of European citizens. However, the level of physical activity is currently stagnating and even declining in many countries. The European Week of Sport (EWoS) is a response to this challenge. Matteo will also talk about how the lack of physical activity not only has a negative impact on society and people’s health but also results in economic costs. In addition, how sport has the potential to strengthen messages of tolerance and reinforce citizenship throughout Europe. Finally, how promoting the role of sport as a means of social inclusion will help address ongoing challenges in European society.
