Oliver Dudfield from the Commonwealth Secretariat will present at the 14th EFDN Conference

Oliver Dudfield, Head of Sport for Development and Peace at the Commonwealth Secretariat, will be one of the speakers at the 14th EFDN #Morethanfootbal Conference in Breda.

 Oliver Dudfield leads the Commonwealth Secretariat’s work supporting member countries to maximize and protect the contribution sport can make to sustainable economic, social and environmental development. He has spearheaded the intergovernmental organization’s globally recognized initiatives on sport and the Sustainable Development Goals. This includes overseeing the Secretariat’s role, coordinating international efforts to quantify and enhance the contribution of sport to this global agenda.

Over his career, Oliver has advised multiple United Nations and intergovernmental agencies, national governments, sporting bodies and civil society organisations on policy design, strategy and partnership projects. He is the author of multiple publications on enhancing the contribution of sport to human and social development. Oliver started his career as a basketball coach and coach educator, working in the national systems in Australia and New Zealand.

During his session will explore the link between social responsibility strategies in football, national social, economic and environmental development priorities and the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Models and methodologies to link sport-based interventions to the SDGs developed by the Commonwealth Secretariat will be shared along with key learning garnered from analysis, research and the development of international strategies and action plans on sport and sustainable development. Participants will get insights into the opportunities and benefits of stronger alignment with the SDGs and key learning and challenges faced in this work. Tools, techniques, and approaches that can enhance and evidence the contribution of sport-based strategies and programming to the Global Goals will be shared and discussed.
