The EFDN Conferences

The EFDN Conferences

Now in the 12th edition, the Conferences are EFDN’s flagship event.   Held bi-annually, the conferences provide network members, practitioners, project leaders and decision makers from community engaged professional football organisations with the opportunity to share best practice, debate, explore, produce ideas and solutions and understand new initiatives.

The EFDN Conferences feature presentations on critical current topics, trends and groundbreaking social programmes by high profile experts in the field as well as break-out sessions, panel discussions, practical workshops, monitoring and evaluation initiatives and roundtable discussions. The programme gives the attendees an insight into how Europe’s leading football clubs and organisations develop and implement football-based community and social responsibility initiatives currently, and in the future.

Developing the transformative role of football

Topics for discussions include community involvement, environmental awareness and practices, educational and health initiatives, cultural understanding and integration, tackling racism, promoting equality, stadium accessibility and sustainability, community-based fan engagement and much more.  EFDN is committed using the power of football to promote and advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The theme for the first EFDN Conference of 2019 in March is #Morethanfootball, a movement and campaign that highlights and promotes the positive impact of community programmes of the EFDN network members and partners.  The 12th EFDN Conference coincides with the kick off of the 2019 #Morethanfootball Active Weeks.  For more information and to join the movement see the #Morethanfootball website here.

The Conferences are a two-day event with speakers and attendees from leading clubs, associations, federations and organisation in the CSR field of professional football.   The 11th Conference was held at the Ghelamco Arena stadium of KKA Ghent in November of last year and included presentations from the likes of UEFA, the DFB Foundation, La Liga,  Belgian Pro League, Arsenal FC, FC Barcelona, Burnley FC,  Feyenoord Rotterdam, KAA Gent, Olympique Lyonnais, Shakhtar Donetsk, Charlton Athletic, Legia Warsaw as well as individual specialists and experts in the field of CSR in football.  The 12th incarnation of the Conference will be held at Chelsea FC’s Stamford Bridge stadium with an equally high calibre line-up which will be announced in the coming weeks.

Following every conference, EFDN publishes a detailed post-conference report highlighting the content from the various speakers, breakout sessions, roundtable discussions and panels.  The report from the 11th EFDN Conference in Gent, Belgium can be found here, while to get a feel for what it’s all about, see the official video from the event in Gent here.
