Phillip Smith, CEO of Northampton Town FC Community Trust will be presenting the topic of how a community-led strategy enables organisations to be fit for the future at the 14th EFDN #Morethanfootball Online Conference.

Since taking up his post as CEO at Northampton Town FC Community Trust in 2017, Phill has doubled the organisations turnover, staff and the number of impactful programmes they deliver. Phill has over a decade of experience across the community, sport, education and health sectors with particular expertise in strategy development. He is passionate about using the power of sport to make a positive difference in the communities he’s worked in. Prior to his current role, Phill worked for Leyton Orient Trust as Head of Health and Wellbeing where his work received both local and national recognition through the innovative approaches used to support the club’s fan base and the wider community.

A winning strategy – How our community-led strategy enabled us to be fit for the future. Even through COVID!

Phill will be sharing the journey of how Northampton Town FC Community Trust developed their new ‘more than football’ strategy in 2019 (pre covid) – which is the roadmap for the organisations growth and development over the next three years. This presentation will describe how, as a small organisation with limited resources, Northampton Town FC community trust engaged with their local community, club and stakeholders to develop a meaningful strategy which even through COVID has remained highly relevant and enabled growth. It will explain how the community trust diversified their work from traditional football-related activity to a wider portfolio and will share our learning (good and bad) from this process.
